Romancing Sonakshi was challenging: Rajinikanth

Hyderabad: Superstar Rajinikanth Monday said romancing Sonakshi Sinha in his forthcoming Tamil action movie ‘Lingaa’ was a challenge.

Rajinikanth said he didn't feel so nervous even on the first time he faced the camera as much as he did when asked to shoot duets with Sonakshi.

"The worst punishment god can give actors like me who are in their 60s is to sing duets. I found shooting duets with Sonakshi more challenging than doing stunts atop a moving train in the film," Rajinikanth told reporters here at the curtain-raiser of the film's Telugu version.

"Even in my first film, I didn't feel so nervous as much as I did when I had to romance her. I've known Sonakshi as a baby, and she has grown up together with my daughters," he said.

The superstar also felt the same for the film's second heroine, Anushka Shetty.

Rajinikanth heaped praises on make-up artist Bhanu and cinematographer Rathnavelu for making him look "young and beautiful" on screen.

‘Lingaaa’, directed by K.S. Ravi Kumar, is slated for release Friday.

Rajinikanth appreciated the director for completing a project of this scale in less than six months.

"Firstly, it's almost impossible to complete such a big project in about six months. It's big not because of the artistes or the budget, but because of the subject and the pre-independence era in which the story is set," he said.

"If there's something Ravi Kumar and I would like to give the young generation, it's this that even a big film can be completed in less than six months," he added.

Rajinikanth quickly clarified that his statement was not applicable to all films.

"I'm aware of the Telugu film 'Baahubali', which has been in the making for over a year. You can't compare it with 'Lingaa', because it needs time as it's being made in two parts. I also know the kind of hard work being put into that project," he said.

"The Telugu industry should be proud of Rajamouli, who will soon be known as the best technician in the country. I'll be happy to work with him if I get an opportunity," Rajinikanth added.

The superstar also reiterated that they didn't steal anyone's script to make "Lingaa", and that it was originally written by S. Ponkumaran.

The same happened with Priyanka Chopra and Sonakshi Sinha- the divas attended the launch of ace designer Vikram Phadnis’ store Krasaa. Where PC showed up in a western avatar, Sona chose to go the Indian way.Priyanka was seen wearing a sequinned black Dolce and Gabbana dress which she sported with bright red lips and black pumps. The actress wore her hair in a neat bun and accessorised her look with a pair of delicate studs. Though the look PeeCee was aiming for was flashy and vibrant, the beauty managed to pull it off with much ease and oomph!

Sonakshi, on the other hand, showed up in a shimmering cream churidar kurta styled by Vikram Phadnis himself. The Tevar actress teamed up her desi style with a curled up bob and red lips. We believe Sona has played safe and hasn’t experimented with her look much. It comes across as too bland. The actress could have broken the monotony of cream with mismatched juttis or earrings. But we liked the funky floral ring that she teamed up with her attire.

Well that was our opinion. Tell us which of these access’ looks do you like more? Post your votes in the box below!

Action Jackson box office collection: Ajay Devgn and Sonakshi Sinha starrer mints Rs 28 crore!

Though the official figures for Sunday aren’t out, early estimates suggest that the film has raked in between Rs 11.5 to 12 crore

Prabhu Dheva’s latest directorial venture Action Jackson starring Ajay Devgn and Sonakshi Sinha may not have impressed the critics big time but the film has managed to pull crowds to the theaters. We say so because the action-drama has managed to fare decently at the ticket windows despite being panned by most critics. While multiplexes received lukewarm response, ace choreographer-turned filmmaker Prabhu Dheva’s latest release did good business at single screen theatres.

The film released on Friday (November 5) and ended up raking in Rs 9.75 crore. However, on day 2 (Saturday) the collections went down and the Ajay-Sona starrer collected Rs 6.80 crore. But again on Sunday the figures picked up and as per early estimates Action Jackson grossed around Rs 11.5-12 crore thus bringing its three day domestic total to Rs 28 crore approximately.

According to Boxofficeindia, “Action Jackson has grossed around 28-28.50 crore nett in its first weekend which is the the 13th highest weekend of the year and well short of what it should have done. The business in single screens was decent on Friday, dropped on Saturday but was good to very good on Sunday. Multiplexes are dull.”

Katrina Kaif-Shah Rukh Khan, Deepika Padukone-Ranbir Kapoor, Anushka Sharma-Ranveer Singh- jodis that are set to return to the big screen again

These successful jodis will soon be seen setting the screens on fire yet again

When these actors were cast together they generated much buzz. It’s only natural that people are now looking forward to seeing them again on the big screen. A lot has been said about the chemistry that they share on screen and filmmakers have obviously taken note of it. Most of the movies that these pairs have starred in have also made money at the box office. And who doesn’t like repeating a success formula? Here are some pairs that will soon return to entertain the janta once more:

Sonam Kapoor and Fawad Khan

When they came together for Khoobsurat, which was a remake of the earlier classic by the same name, people didn’t know what to expect from this jodi. However, Fawad proved to be the perfect Prince Charming, and Sonam made for a great Disney’s desi doll. Their chemistry couldn’t be ignored in what went on to become the year’s best romcom. Just like their first movie together, their second outing too will be produced by Sonam’s sister Rhea. Based on the book author Anuja Chauhan’s book Battle For Bittora, the movie will see Sonam playing an animation expert, who finds herself contesting elections in Bittora opposite an ex-royal, played by Fawad.

Arjun Kapoor and Sonakshi Sinha

Their first movie together Tevar releases next month, but it looks like Arjun and Sona have already caught filmmakers’ attention. There is buzz that they will star in the film made on Sahir Ludhianvi and Amrita Pritam’s life. Earlier, Priyanka Chopra was being considered for Sona’s role, but the actress couldn’t take on the role due to date issues. Fawad Khan is also slated to play an important role in the movie. While their chemistry in Tevar seems to be great, it’s the fate of the movie at the box office that will decide if Arjun-Sona make an exciting and commercially viable pair.

Shah Rukh Khan-Katrina Kaif

The last time they came together, it was for the late Yash Chopra’s swansong Jab Tak Hai Jaan. They danced and romanced in typical Yash Chopra style in the movie. This time, it will be Chopra’s son and YRF head honcho Aditya, who is likely to bring SRK and Kat together in his directorial venture. This seems to be Aditya’s nod to the pair that came together in his dad’s final movie. The last time they came together, SRK broke his rule of not locking lips on-screen, it remains to be seen what happens this time around.

Varun Dhawan and Alia Bhatt

While Varun lost Alia to Sidharth Malhotra in Student of the Year, but the two made an awesome pair in Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania (HSKD). Their chemistry in the movie was great and the two are keen to work together again. Now we hear, mentor Karan Johar might just make their wish come true. The filmmaker is likely to produce a romantic movie to be directed by HSKD director Shashank Khaitan, and is keen to cast the pair that starred in the movie too. If all goes well, this will be Varun and Alia’s third film together.

Ranbir Kapoor-Deepika Padukone

Ranbir and Deepika are a certified hit jodi at the box office. Their last outing Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani broke box office records. And now the two actors are getting together in Imtiaz Ali’s next movie titled Tamasha. While Ranbir has worked with Imtiaz in Rockstar, Deepika has worked with the director in Love Aaj Kal. This time the trio gets together.

Ranveer Singh-Anushka Sharma

Exes can be great co-stars. Looks like Anushka and Ranveer are out to prove this very statement. Not only have they acted in Zoya Akhtar’s Dil Dhadakne Do, but they are all set to work together yet again. The movie will produced by Anushka’s banner and will be directed by Navdeep Singh, who has directed her first home production NH10. Anushka approached Ranveer for the movie and the actor liked the subject so much that he agreed to act in it instantly. The two YRF discoveries have previously acted in the productions house’s Band Baaja Baaraat and Ladies vs Ricky Bahl too.

Here’s why Sonakshi Sinha wants to do more of South films!

The Tevar actress talks about Lingaa and her plans to do south films

Actress Sonakshi Sinha, who feels southern movies are “content-rich”, says her forthcoming Tamil cinematic debut Lingaa won’t be a one-off film in her career as she’s keen to find more work in the industry.
“I would love to do more projects (down south) provided I get good scripts,” Sonakshi told IANS in an interview. ”The southern film industries are rich in content, which is why so many of their films get remade here (in Bollywood). I definitely don’t want (my southern film career) to end with Lingaa,” she said. Sonakshi may be a newcomer to the southern filmdom, but she has already developed a sort of relationship with the industry by starring in five Hindi remakes of south hits – Dabanng, Rowdy Rathore, Son of Sardaar, Holiday: A Soldier Is Never Off Duty and upcoming Tevar.

Also, four of her films so far have been with southern filmmakers A.R. Murugadoss and Prabhudeva. Therefore, working in Lingaa wasn’t any different for her, except the language. ”After working in so many southern remakes, I think I’ve developed a sense of familiarity with the way things function here. The only new challenge was to speak a language I don’t speak or understand and look convincing doing it,” she added. Lingaa, which releases in cinemas Friday, wasn’t the first Tamil project Sonakshi was offered. In fact, she was offered films in Telugu and Kannada in the past.

“I wasn’t able to take up those offers because of my commitments in Bollywood. Just like how Dabangg was an offer I couldn’t refuse, even though I never wanted to be an actress, so was Lingaa,” she said. She admits Rajinikanth was a “driving force” in her decision to act in Lingaa. ”It was an honour to share screen space with a living legend like him,” she said. Sonakshi wasn’t floored by the superstar status of 62-year old Rajinikanth. ”I was stunned by his simplicity and humble nature. He is a wonderful human being and truly a rare gem of a person,” she said.

But did it ever concern her that she was paired with a hero who’s in his sixties?

“It did cross my mind, but the role was such that it would not put either of us in an awkward situation,” she said, and added that since Rajinikanth and her father Shatrughan Sinha have been friends for many years, steps were taken to ensure nothing ever made her uncomfortable. In Lingaa, which is directed by K.S. Ravi Kumar, Sonakshi plays a character in the 1940s. She clarifies that the role won’t be similar to the one she essayed in Hindi period romance Lootera.

“I played a Bengali in Lootera, which was an intense love story. In this film, I play a south Indian in a patriotic zone,” she said. The most fascinating part of her role, Sonakshi said “was speaking a new language, donning a new look, and being part of a completely new era”. Despite being alien to Tamil, Sonakshi was lauded for her perfect lip sync in the film’s trailer.

How did she do it?

“My director, his associates and our writer actually made it very easy for me to pick it up. I was allowed to read it off placards or be prompted while speaking. Also, having worked with Tamil units before helped a great deal,” she said. Besides working with the superstar, another reason that really got Sonakshi excited about working in Lingaa was her association with double Oscar-winning composer A.R. Rahman. ”It feels amazing. I have been hoping that I get to work with him from the very beginning of my career and I’m glad I got the chance to do it in my first Tamil film,” she added.

Sonakshi will next team up with A.R. Murugadoss in a “woman-centric” Hindi film, while her Telugu project with Mahesh Babu has been shelved.
