On his birthday, here’s a double treat for all the Rajinikanth fans
Rajinikanth’s much-awaited film, Lingaa has finally hit the theatres today. The Southern Superstar is playing a dual role in this movie, which also stars Sonakshi Sinha, Anushka Shetty, Jagapathy Babu, Santhanam and others with music by AR Rahman. Our critic Subramanian Harikumar is watching the film at a theatre right now. He has sent his first impression of Lingaa. Here’s what he has to say:
“Lingaa tells tale of a petty thief Lingaa played by Rajinikanth who spends his days plotting and looting precious stones along with his gang. Anushka Shetty convinces Lingaa, who also happens to be the heir of Solaiyur, grandson of late Raja Lingeshwaran, to come back to his home town and open a closed temple of Lord Shiva. When Lingaa and his gang get to know that there is an emarald Shiva lingam inside temple, they plan to steal it. Then, we are taken into flashback mode as Raja Lingeswaran, a British collector struggles to build a dam for people of drought struck Solaiyur. Performance wise it is Rajinikanth who shines in dual avatar, leaving you in awe with his style, dialogue delivery and charming persona. The way superstar fights, dances and romances will make you doubt if Thalaivar has just touched his 40′s. Anushka looks a million bucks and shares a decent chemistry with superstar. Mona Gasolina song is one of the high points of first half. Santhanam’s comic punches are bang on and AR Rahman’s background score is worth praising. The screenplay has enough meat as there is a lot happening in the first half. The action sequence on the train gives you adrenaline rush. Rajini looks convincing as Lingaa the thief but steals the show with his majestic act of Raja Lingeshwaran in the British era. We also get a glimpse of Sonakshi, who looks pretty playing the village belle role to perfection. Lets see how the story unfolds in second half.”

Here’s taking a look at the Finding Fanny actor’s year gone by
Ever since he made his debut in YRF’s Ishaqzaade, Arjun Kapoor has been lauded as the next best thing in Bollywood. Not only did Arjun wow everyone in Ishaqzaade, but achieved a flurry of success with his next two films Gunday and 2 States. However, Aurangzeb didn’t manage to create a stir.
While Ishaqzaade made on a humble budget went on to collect impressive numbers at the Box Office, his this year blockbusters Gunday and 2 States had the cash registers ringing. This makes Arjun Kapoor the youngest actor to be welcomed into the 100 crore club alongside Ranveer Singh. What makes this achievement even more impressive, is the fact that 2 States was a solo-hero film and the first-of-its-kind to see such unprecedented success. However, the next release Finding Fanny didn’t do that well at the box office, however being applauded by the critics.
A respected trade analyst states, “Arjun Kapoor is undoubtedly the leader of the pack when it comes to his generation of actors and the box office numbers are there to prove – Backed by 3 blockbusters, the rise of Arjun Kapoor has been phenomenal for someone who is just 2 years old in the industry. Arjun Kapoor has truly turned out to be a dark-horse at the box office”.
Arjun will be next seen in Sanjay Kapoor’s Tevar, one of the most anticipated films of 2015. If sources are to believed, distributors have been clamoring for Tevar after the phenomenal success of 2 States, which garnered the highest box office amount this far for a new-cast film.
Directed by renowned ad filmmaker Amit Sharma, Tevar will also star Sonakshi Sinha, an actress with major box office appeal. All eyes are on the film as producer Sanjay Kapoor is ecstatic with the developments on the commercial entertainer as it has blockbuster written all over it.
Says a source, “Tevar is one of the most anticipated films this year as it brings together Sonakshi Sinha, a lucky mascot at the box office and Arjun Kapoor who is turning out to be a box office Boy Wonder. The film will mark the directorial debut of Amit Sharma who also directed the Google ad film and is a talent to watch out for”.
The fate of superstar Rajinikanth’s Lingaa release is finally decided. The producer agrees to pay Rs 10 crore to the court
The Madras High Court bench here Thursday allowed the release of superstar Rajinikanth-starrer Lingaa Friday on the condition that its producer Rockline Venkatesh deposit Rs 10 crore in the court.
According to the order, Rs.5 crore needs to be submitted in cash and the rest in bank guarantee by Friday noon to the court registrar. Justice V Dhanapalan and Justice VM Velumani passed the order on a writ appeal filed by aspiring filmmaker KR Ravi Rathinam, who accused the makers of Lingaa of stealing his script.
Justice Dhanapalan said the order was passed as a pre-condition to release the film and protect the petitioner’s right until he approaches the right forum. Earlier, a single judge had dismissed the petitioner’s petition and directed him to invoke criminal or civil proceedings.
Producer Rockline Venkatesh said he will abide by the court’s decision. The producer has agreed to deposit Rs 10 crore to Madras High Court. ”The film will release globally tomorrow (Friday). There won’t be any change in the release,” Venkatesh told media.
Lingaa, which also stars Sonakshi Sinha and Anushka Shetty in the lead, is the first Rajinikanth film to release on his birthday. The superstar will turn 64 Friday. Considering the amount of profit, that Lingaa is gonna make at box office thanks to Rajinikanth’s magic, we think it is a smart move from producer Rockline Venkatesh.
After Varun, the Tevar actor reacts to the recent rape case
Bollywood actor Arjun Kapoor Wednesday termed the recent sexual assault on a young woman by a taxi driver in the capital as humiliating, and said every man should be ashamed of himself following the incident.
An Uber taxi driver raped a 25-year-old business analyst in his cab while dropping her home in north Delhi Dec 5 night. “Our country is only getting known for stuff like this. It’s such a sad thing that has happened, and yet again,” Arjun said. “…the kind of check they (Uber officials) have done for that man to get selected (as a driver)…obviously there is negligence. So today, the government has to stand up and make sure that it never happens again. It’s very humiliating,” he added.
The young actor says when incidents such as this happen, he doesn’t feel proud of being an Indian. On the work front, Arjun will next be seen sharing screen space with Sonakshi Sinha in Tevar. The film will hit screens Jan 9, 2015.
The plagarism case on Thalaivar’s Lingaa has become a great headache for makers as it’s release tomorrow looks uncertain
People filing legal suites and petitions claiming the story of a big film as their own, has been happening since ages. But off lately, filing plagiarism charges has become some sort of a trend. After Vijay’s Kaththi came out clean from story theft charges, it is now Rajinikanth’s Lingaa‘s turn to face the heat.
Only days ago, Lingaa was cleared off plagiarism charges by the court. But it looks like the trouble is far from over. Just when makers of Rajinikanth-Sonakshi starrer breathed a sigh of relief, another case had been filed on makers of Lingaa accusing them of plagiarism, just a week before the release. While case is still being looked into by the court, we hear that Madras High Court has demanded Rs 10 crore to be deposited for Lingaa‘s release. The Madras High Court has issued a statement saying Lingaa can release only after Rs 5 crore deposit + 5 crore guarantee would be deposited in court by 12 noon tomorrow.
Earlier Rajinikanth had filed a caveat to prevent the Madras High Court bench from passing any interim order in the Lingaa case without hearing his stand. Now with this latest order from Madras High Court, it will be interesting to see how the makers of Lingaa respond to it. Will the plagiarism case play a spoilt sport and dampen the spirits of Thalaivar’s birthday celebrations?
