Our in-house fashion designer and critic Aniket Satam decodes celeb style statements of the week. Some impress, some depress and some are plain disasters!
Read on what he says…
Sonakshi Sinha: This is a classic example about how too much trying kills the look. The pastel blazer with patent slip-on shoes and dainty asymmetric blouse could have all worked if teamed with a flirty full skirt instead of the casual pair of denims. That too fitted and how! The almost nailed styling was completely ruined with this painted on indigo pants, even a basic tan trousers or white pallazo would have looked great.Points for trying new hairdo with hair of such length but this hairdo just doesn’t save the horror of the denim impact.
Aishwarya Rai Bachchan: Thank God finally! Mrs Junior Bachchan ditched those frumpy sherwani suits and goody Indian Anarkali sets and has at last, taken the sassy route of high-end luxury western clothes. This Gucci Pre-fall classic LBD is modern and timeless and fashion-forward. Sleak, futurstic sharpness of the design is well complimented with the sleak pony tail and Femme Fatale red lips. The knee high boots perfectly completes the improved mode of Ash. Hope she continues with this yummy mummy avatar and give her critics a run for their money.
Salman Khan: Being Human is one thing and being super human is one thing. The bulk up actor is sleek tailored sherwani looks nothing less than a Disney prince. His statement stern meets smile look and his iconic turquoise chain bracelet are irreplacble parts of his personality. But what is the glitch here is those pointed pair of leather shoes. They need some rest in shoe cemetery. No?
Jacqueline Fernandez: Another Gucci short dress number which another actress pulls off with such great confidence and fines. Sharp modern lines of the design in contrasting sheen and deep fall colour compliments the formality of the derby occasion and the faux leather top adds to the quirk meter. The lady like classic in funky material clash makes this look more today and that saucer like hat by Delna Poonawala punctuates the look with an ace.Its like Judy Jetson chic circa 2015!
Gauahar Khan: I can understand what one can go through and protest the demeaning act of someone random just coming on set and slapping for wearing short-dresses. But this look just doesn’t do anything in name of modesty or fashion. We want our sassy confident Gauahar back. The bell bottom granny denims with that frumpy white top makes her look more suburban mom at her PTA meeting. The checkered Louis Vuitton adds to the whole above mentioned description.
The Ae Dil Hai Mushkil actress is slowly but steadily growing in stature…
Anushka Sharma has been at the top of her game these days. With some great movies like PK, NH 10, Bombay Velvet, Dil Dhadakne Do coming out in the next few months, Anushka will definitely be a reigning queen in 2015. Also she has been roped in for Karan Johar’s Ae Dil Hai Mushkil recently. However, the actress is up and about the fact that she has earned this status and not just got it by fluke. She also refers to some of her fellow actors who have had it very easy in B-town. Wonder who they are?
Anushka at a recent press interview informed, “After my first film, I didn’t become an overnight star like Ranbir (Kapoor), Ranveer (Singh) or Deepika (Padukone). No one put me on the covers of magazines and called me the next big thing. No one said that ‘she is the one to look out for’.” Now that fact may be true, but definitely Anushka has risen slowly and steadily and is sure to beat her contemporaries like Deepika Padukone, Sonam Kapoor, Sonakshi Sinha and others in 2015.
With stellar directors like Rajkumar Hirani, Anurag Kashyap, Zoya Akhtar, Karan Johar and Navdeep Singh in her kitty, she sure is going to be the numero uno heroine in the coming days. What do you think BollywoodLifers?
Jalandhar: Actress Sonakshi Sinha says she likes discussing politics with her actor-politician father Shatrughan Sinha but has no intent of trying her luck in it.
The 27-year-old 'Rowdy Rathore' star said politics is not her cup of tea and she would like to concentrate on films only.
"I will never join politics. There is no possibility for me to join politics. I am a creative person and I always want to do something creative in my life," Sonakshi told PTI.
The 'Action Jackson' actress, however, said offlate she has started taking interest in political affairs.
"My interest started after Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led BJP government came at the centre. I often talk to my father about this because everyone wants to know what our PM and government are doing and I also have interest in this," she said.
Shatrughan is the sitting MP from Patna Saheb. His daughter was here to attend the inaugural event of Kabaddi World Cup. She even owns a Kabaddi team United Singhs in the World Kabaddi League.
Sonakshi will be next seen in Arjun Kapoor-starrer 'Tevar', which is scheduled for release on January 9, 2015.
New Delhi: Actor-filmmaker Prabhudheva’s latest directorial “Action Jackson” will touch Rs.20 crore soon -- but trade experts figure the numbers are not overwhelming for the "routine and hackneyed" movie.
Starring Ajay Devgn, Sonakshi Sinha, Yami Gautam and Manasvi Mamgai, the action film hit approximately 3,000 screens Friday.
“It earned Rs.19 crore in two days. It was made on a budget of about Rs.75 crore and considering that, the film should’ve done better. Those who like Prabhudheva kind of films have mostly gone for it, but not everyone,” Rajesh Thadani of Multimedia Combines told reporters.
Prabhudheva is known for making massy films like “R... Rajkumar” and “Rowdy Rathore”.
Trade expert Komal Nahta tweeted: “#ActionJackson is too routine and hackneyed. Meant for masses, not for classes.”
"Sulemani Keeda", an indie comedy, also hit the screens along with the star-packed “Action Jackson”, but it also failed to earn big at the box office.
“#SulemaniKeeda is cute. Meant for people looking for different cinema. Commercial prospects are weak,” Nahta tweeted.
Thadani also has “doubts” about the film’s performance at the box office.
“The collections were negligible. It earned around Rs.25 lakh. It is for select audience,” he added.
Despite being panned by the critics, Prabhu Dheva’s masala gangster saga has got a decent opening at box office
After riding high on the success of Singham Returns, filmi punters said Ajay Devgn had dug a grave for himself by starring in a film like Action Jackson. After being panned by the critics left , right and center for being a nonsensical film, no one expected Action Jackson to do well at box office. But surprisingly, the numbers at box office have a different story to tell.
We hear that Ajay Devgn-Sonakshi Sinha-Yami Gautam starrer has got a decent opening at box office minting Rs 10.16 crore at the box office. While Devgn previous flick, Singham Returns raked Rs 31.82 crore at box office, considering the kind of response and word of mouth review we have been receiving, we are surprised that Action Jackson has managed to surpass Rs 10 crore on the opening day. The trade experts believe that the lukewarm opening of Action Jackson is all due to Ajay Devgn’s fan following and the real test of Prabhu Dheva‘s directorial is to make money in the coming days.
Can Action Jackson pull off a Humshakals and make some serious money despite critics bashing it to the pulp? Lets wait and watch.
Here’s the latest goss from the sets of Sanjay Kapoor’s upcoming production venture…
Sonakshi Sinha who is looking super hot had been hitting the gym with her vengeance for her upcoming next, Sanjay Kapoor’s Tevar, where she stars alongside Gen-X heartthrob Arjun Kapoor. Sources attached to the film reveal that the actress went all out to sport her hottest look ever, in the commercial entertainer, and she had been hitting the gym post shooting hours as well.
The Action Jackson star who has worked with the biggest names in Bollywood, this time around is sharing screen space with ‘good friend’ Arjun Kapoor who she has known since her childhood days. What’s more is the fact that the actress had been bonding with Arjun over health and fitness as they discussed their respective workout regimes. Now everyone knows about Arjun’s flab to fab story, and it seems that the Finding Fanny actor is giving his rumoured girlfriend a lot of tips to stay fit and healthy.
Sanjay Kapoor’s Tevar starring Arjun Kapoor and Sonakshi Sinha is scheduled to release on January 9, 2015. Tevar is the remake of Telugu action film Okkadu and will mark the directorial debut of celebrated ad-filmmaker Amit Sharma.
Sonakshi Sinha-Yami Gautam-Manaswi Mamgai starrer is garnering a lot o flak from all corners of the India. Here’s something from a southern actor…
Stars have made bad films in the past as well, but it seems Ajay Devgn’s Action Jackson has surpassed all of them. Not only are the audiences and critics panning out the films there are some film actors as well who have openly accused the film. The latest to join the bandwagon is southern hero Karthik Kumar. Karthik has been a good friend of Prabhu Dheva all his life and he took to twitter after watching Ajay Devgn’s latest flick. Wonder what he said?
He tweeted, “On behalf of the nation of #SouthIndia we apologize to our neighbouring friendly #NorthIndia for unleashing #prabhudeva as a director on u.” That definitely seems like a slap on Prabhu Dheva’s face but as the two are good friends it must be all said in good humour. We wonder how Prabhu Dheva would revert back to the same.
