Helen was a true style diva: Shatrughan

Mumbai: Actor-politician Shatrughan Sinha says veteran actress Helen, who has just turned 80, was a true style diva in the 1960s and 1970s and excelled with her clean dance moves in her famous cabaret numbers.

"Loving and warm birthday wishes Helen, wife of legendary script writer Salim Khan. During 1960s-1970s she was the most popular and loved dancer. She excelled with her graceful, elegant and clean dance moves in her famous cabaret and item numbers. She was a true style diva for her innovative wigs and fabulous costumes," Shatrughan tweeted on Friday.

Helen turned on 80 on November 21. Shatrughan, who has worked with the actress in films like "Parwana" and "Dostana", said that her songs "Yeh mera dil pyaar ka diwana", "Piya tu ab toh aaja", "Aao na gale lagao na" are hummed and remain favourites even today.

"Starting out as a chorus dancer her rise to the top was both painful and appreciable. She performed on the international stage also," he added.

Don’t think five heroes can work together: Akshay Kumar

Mumbai: Akshay Kumar says it was easy for him to get five A-list female actors for his next "Mission Mangal", a feat he believes would be difficult to pull off with his male co-stars.

Touted as India's first space film, "Mission Mangal" will feature female stars --Vidya Balan, Taapsee Pannu, Sonakshi Sinha, Nithya Menen, Kirti Kulhari -- along with Akshay and Sharman Joshi.

"The script demands them to be ahead. They are the real heroes. I am supposed to be behind them even though I am producing it. I am very happy to see these five girls, who are very big in their own way, are not bothered that there are five of them coming together," Akshay said in a group interview.

"The attitude of 'why should I do it' isn't there. I don't think five heroes will come together. I don't think so. But when I approached them they were very happy with their roles and were ready to do the film," he added.

When asked why do heroes have that apprehension, Akshay said he is not aware, as from his end, he has done several multi-starrers.

"I hope seven actors come together. Earlier they used to. Rajkumar Kohli used to make those films and even I've done 'Jaani Dushman,'" he added.

Akshay will be next seen in "2.0", which features megastar Rajinikanth. The film is directed by S Shankar and is scheduled to release on November 29.

Apart from this, Akshay has war-drama "Kesari" up for release next year, along with the comedy "Housefull 4".

Asked about the film based on Prithviraj Chauhan, which is reportedly backed by Yash Raj Films and directed by Chandraprakash Dwivedi, the actor said, "We are still finalising. Maybe next year end."

Akshay Kumar, Vidya Balan kick-off shoot of Mission Mangal — See pics

New Delhi: Amidst the ongoing plagiarism row, the shooting of R Balki's next production 'Mission Mangal' kickstarted on Friday. Yesterday, Taapsee Pannu treated her fans with a sneak-peek at her look from the film and now, pictures of Akshay Kumar and Vidya Balan from the sets of the film have emerged on the social media.

In the photos, Akshay can be seen wearing a blue shirt and beige pants, whereas Vidya Balan is seen in a saree. Vidya and Akshay are reuniting for the film after almost a decade. They were last seen together in 'Heyy Babyy' and 'Bhool Bhulaiya'.

Take a look at their photos here:

Yesterday, sharing her look from the film, Taapsee, captioned her picture as, "Kritika Agarwal, Navigation and Communication Department, reporting on duty".

Directed by Jagan Shakti, 'Mission Mangal' features an ensemble cast of Kriti Kulhari, Sonakshi Sinha, Sharman Joshi along with Akshay and Vidya.

Recently, the film was caught in a controversy after a US-based filmmaker Radha Bhardawaj approached the Bombay High Court against the makers of 'Mission Mangal' claiming copyright infringement.

Radha Bharadwaj on Wednesday filed a suit seeking a stay on the production and release of the movie, which is about India's 2014 Mars Orbiter Mission (MOM), also known as Mangalyaan.

Reacting on these allegations, producer R Balki told Mid-Day, "We have taken the core of the story and added fictional characters to make it an interesting screenplay. Only ISRO can claim rights to the core story. I urge Radha to come to my office and read our script. I am certain she will find it refreshing. She hasn’t even read it, so how can she make such claims?"

The film is based on India's 2013 space programme of Mangalyaan mission and will be co-produced by Fox Star Studios and Cape of Good Films. It will hit the screens on August 15, 2019.

Well, that headstand is indeed mind-blowing! Even though the pic shows a silhouette, we are pretty sure this is Sonakshi performing the headstand. The picture is indeed stunning and the sunset background just adds to its charm.

Good looks was never in the forefront for me, says Sonakshi Sinha

Mumbai: Actress Sonakshi Sinha, last seen onscreen in 'Happy Phirr Bhag Jayegi', says looking good was never a priority in her life.

Sonkashi was interacting with media at India's biggest health show 'Future of Wellness 2018' on Saturday in Mumbai.

Talking about her transformation journey form flab to fit, Sonakshi said, "For me while growing up, it was never about looks because this (acting) is not what I wanted to do in life."

She said she wanted to be a fashion designer, marine biologist and an astronaut at different phases of her life. "So, I wanted to do a lot of things which is why good looks was never in the forefront for me."

"I was a complete tom-boy. My whole life revolved around sports... I was good at sports, in speaking and in my school work. So, I had all these things to be confident about, but unfortunately a lot of girls don't have that mind space. I would like them to have that mind space."

Her advice on fitness? "I think results are the biggest motivator and any woman when she sees results on herself will want to improve on them and keep at it. I think fitness should be a way of life no matter what profession you are in."

She says it's important to be happy in life. "Until you are happy from within, it's not going to show outside. I think if you want to transform yourself then, you first need to train your mind then your body will follow that," she said.

Sonkashi Sinha will be seen onscreen in Abhishek Varman's 'Kalank'. It also features Aditya Roy Kapoor, Varun Dhawan, Alia Bhatt, Sanjay Dutt and Madhuri Dixit Nene in lead roles.

It is scheduled to release on April 19, 2019.

Varun Dhawan, Alia Bhatt all set to head to Rajasthan for Kalank shoot

New Delhi: After wrapping up the Kargil and Indore schedule of Abhishek Varman's period-drama 'Kalank', the team is all set to head to Rajasthan to shoot for the next schedule. 'Kalank' is being produced by Karan Johar, Sajid Nadiadwala and Fox Star Studios and features an ensemble cast of Alia Bhatt, Varun Dhawan, Madhuri Dixit, Sonakshi Sinha, Kunal Khemu, Aditya Roy Kapur and Sanjay Dutt.

'Kalank' will see Varun and Alia coming together on the big screen for the fourth time after 'Student Of The Year', 'Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhaniya' and 'Badrinath Ki Dulhania'. The film is scheduled to release on April 19, 2019.

The shooting of 'Kalank' is currently underway in Dahisar. It has been reported that Varun will be filming for some high-octane action sequences for the film for which a huge sports arena has been set up in Dahisar. The report also stated that Varun will be required to shoot bare chest for the scene for which he has been training for a long time.

The report also stated that although Alia will not be a part of the action sequences, she will have an important crossover scene. Apparently, this is one of the main sequences of the film after which the entire crew will head to Rajasthan.

Reports are there that the shoot of 'Kalank' is expected to wrap up by early next year with a grand song sequence featuring Varun, Alia, Aditya and Sonakshi.

Speaking of the film, veteran actress Madhuri essays the role of Ishmat, a courtesan while Alia plays her student. The film also stars Kiara Advani and Kriti Sanon in special appearances. Sonakshi, who plays a poet in the film, will be paired opposite Aditya while Sanjay Dutt will be seen as Alia's father. Incidentally, late actress Sridevi was originally signed for the character role played by Madhuri.
